What is a Hospice?

It is a centre of excellence providing specialist palliative care, with skilled individualised care being provided in a comfortable environment for those people suffering illnesses for which there is presently no cure.

Where is your Hospice and Who Does it Serve?

The Hospice is situated in Macclesfield, serving the whole area of East Cheshire, including Wilmslow, Handforth, Poynton, Disley, Congleton and Knutsford. The High Peak area of North Derbyshire is also served.

What Services Does Your Hospice Provide?

15 beds for assessment and treatment of symptoms and for terminal care.

A day care unit providing care for up to 15 people, Monday to Thursday and for booked therapy sessions on Fridays.

Special Social Work support for practical welfare concerns, counselling, carer support and a range of bereavement support.

Clinical care is provided by a team of specially trained doctors, nurses and other health care staff, who are experienced in palliative care, to relieve pain and the effect of other symptoms.

Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapist, Lymphoedema Nurse, Complementary Therapists and Art Therapist work with patients on the ward and in the day care unit.

Spiritual support is given by the team of Chaplains.

Who Owns the Hospice?

East Cheshire Hospice is a registered charity, incorporated as a private company and limited by guarantee. Trustees serve on the Council, to whom the Chief Executive is responsible for the day-to-day running of high quality services.

How Much Does the Hospice Cost to Run and do Patients Have to Pay?

Less than 23% of annual running costs are provided by grants from health authorities, which means that £38,500 per week has to be raised by voluntary contributions, legacies and various fundraising events, as well as through the Hospice lottery and it's shops.

No charge is made to patients for services provided.

How You Can Help Your Hospice?

By volunteering to work at the Hospice, in a number of departments;

By joining one of the Support Groups in the area who raise funds;

By assisting in one of the shops in Macclesfield, Wilmslow or Congleton;
